AUSTRONESIAN: INDONESIAN & MALAY
Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.
Indonesian and Malaysian Malay are standardized varieties of the Malay language, officially used in Indonesia (and Timor Leste as a working language) and in Brunei, Malaysia, and Singapore, respectively. While they are generally mutually intelligible, they exhibit noticeable differences in spelling, grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary, influenced by different predominant sources of loanwords. These differences, which can range from mutually unintelligible to closely related, can lead to intercultural conflicts, particularly in higher education. To non-native speakers, the varie...

    The Samoyedic languages of the Uralic family are by far my favourite branch of Proto-Uralic. It’s only a shame that UNESCO already classifies them as endangered as the shift towards Russian as the daily medium of communication increases from one generation to the next.

    The welcoming words "Hello! My name is Andy. Nice to meet you!" is mistranslated here. Me as a native Russian speaker will show what the actual translation can look like. Mistranslated: "Привет! Меня зовут Энди. Очень Приятно!" More correct (my translation): "Привет! Меня зовут Энди. Приятно познакомиться!" I fixed the last sentence there. because "Очень Приятно!" is more translated into "Very Comfortable!". So instead i replaced it with "Приятно познакомиться!" which is the key to the last sentence because it does translate as "Nice to meet you!". I hope Andy doesn't mess up later! :D

    As a Tagalog speaker, Indonesian sounds so much familiar to me, even though I have never been to Indonesia but have visited Malaysia 3 times and interacted with Malaysians a lot more. Sometimes when I hear Indonesian spoken in the distance, it sounds like Tagalog if I am not actively listening to what they are saying.

    I can notice the differences in the pronnunciation of E and R in Malay and Bahasa Indonesia. E sound in Malay is almost like schwa and R sound in Indonesian is more rough

    • @languagesolehsoleh
      @languagesolehsoleh 8 часов назад

      In both Standards, Malay and Indonesian, the letter E is two different sound using the same letter, E and schwa E. E.g. Kereta, the first E is schwa, the second one is normal E, So read as Kréta. Do you mean to say A? Because A at the end of Malay words commonly pronounced like a schwa where Indonesian don't.
